Cartago is in a high seismic hazard zone

NSR-10, the Colombian seismic building code, lists Cartago with Aa 0,25 and Av 0,25: a high seismic hazard zone.

New structure follows NSR-10. Its Título E gives simplified rules for houses of one and two storeys; a third storey is outside it and needs a full structural design.

Adding a floor over a house that exists, or reinforcing one, needs a structural design by a licensed engineer first. The app marks those projects and never draws a structure.

  • A new floor over the house you have: an evaluation of the house and a structural design first.
  • Repair or reinforcement: an evaluation by a licensed structural engineer, then the design.
  • Three storeys: outside the simplified rules for one and two storeys; a full structural design.
  • The planner and the app flag these cases. They never draw a structure.
